Ian - Best 10 Photos

Students in this class learn over the course of six weeks basic wheel techniques as well as glazing techniques and creation of pottery projects.

I chose this detail shot because I like the way the circles form up the motif in the shot, from the wheel to the pot and the clay being sculpted.
I learnt to spot patterns in the world around me to be better able to compose a nicer shot.
Protesters march along H Street NW in Washington, DC  on Mar. 30 2019 to protest the upcoming NATO ministerial meeting, as well as continued US involvement in the Venezuela political crisis.

I like this shot because there is a strong focus in the image and it tells a story and we are immediately able to tell that there is a protest going on.
I learnt to let the subjects of the image tell the story.
Communications Sophomore Osmond Chia plays his electric guitar in the comfort of his bedroom on Mar. 8 2019.

I like this photo because I like the way I was able to play with artificial light created with a flash to create light that draws attention to my subject. It was a good learning experience to manipulate light to your advantage.

Communications Major Or Zann Minn tries to ignore the damp grass or the curious stares as she lies in a grass patch beside a car park on Mar. 9 2019.

I like this photo because of its unique angle and the layering that I created using the plants in the foreground and the model in the background. I learnt how to better position and style a model to make them look better.
A cyclist cycles on a bike path in Washington, DC on Mar. 2 2019.
1/6" / F10 / ISO100 / ND4 + CPL
I like this photo because there is a clear focus in the photo due to the tracking motion that blurs out the rest of the photo. It was a challenge to get the focus right and trial and error as well to get the right focus.
A Food Truck is parked alongside a road in Washington DC on Mar. 3 2019.
30" / F45 / ISO 100 / ND8
I chose this photo because I liked the static can amidst all the chaos of the cars around them. It took me many tries and a lot of preparation to make sure that I could get the traffic light colours in shot and at the right timing to get the cars as well.
A pair of joggers cross a pedestrian bridge over train tracks in Berwyn Heights, MD on 24 Feb. 2019.

I like this photo because the fence creates a strong visual element that draws your focus to the runners on the bridge. This was a lucky shot, as I framed it quickly when I saw the runners running over from the other side.
I learnt that i can trust my instincts and take risks to come up with shots that are different and original.
The sun sets over the fishing pier on 21 Feb. 2019 at Lake Artemesia, MD. Fishing is allowed but in restricted quantities at Lake Artemesia Natural Area.

I like this shot because the sun was setting over the lake and it created a beautiful reflection that I liked. I learnt that I should be patient if I can be to wait out and shoot more as if I had left right after the sun set it would not have gotten this photo of the twilight.
Maryland's Kaila Charles successfully blocks a dunk during the game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Feb. 14, 2019 in the Xfinity Center.

I chose this shot because we can see the players fighting for the ball while other players watch, and it is framed nicely in a rule of thirds.  I learnt that sometimes we have to rely on luck as well to get the shot that we want.
Students head to classes through the trees at the McKeldin Mall on Jan. 31 2019 amidst falling temperatures due to the snow squall.

I chose this shot because I liked the composition of the people walking away from each other, and the trees framing and dwarfing them. I learnt that sometimes I have to be patient if I want to get the shot exactly the way I envisioned it.
