Original: "A student takes a moment to get a jump on weekend readings outside of McKeldin library at the University of Maryland, February 8th, 2019." Why& Learned: I was trying to capture the lives of students on a peaceful day on the mall and this student just happened to be reading a book outside of McKeldin. I crept up and took this shot because it gave me a sense of what McKeldin on the weekend is- slow and serene. I learned that I should have gotten his head in the shot to capture his expression too. |
Original: "Light pours over decorative items that adorn a windowsill in The Flats at The University of Virginia, 24 February 2019." Why& Learned: If it isn't obvious yet, I like getting perspectives from a lower angle which is why I decided to get the foreground and background of this elephant and plant from this point. I learned through our discussion in class that I should have gotten more of the elephant in the photo because it was not obvious to everyone at first glance that it was an elephant. |

Original: "ISO 200 Shutter Sped 1/30 Aperture 5.6" Why & Learned: This was a shot I got during the motion blue and light trails week we had in class. I learned a lot this week including what camera settings to use to get these shots and what the differences are between light trails and motion blurs. |

*No caption week* Why & Learned: I quickly learned in street photography that it is hard to get up close and personal with strangers, at least in the beginning. This person, however, was very open to being photographed so I grabbed the moment. I chose black and white because I had not used it at all this semester so I wanted to try something new and I thought it fit. I learned that you have to take risks and get in people's business. |

Original: "Katie Cote sets up shop “While Waiting” at the UMD Farmers Market for the third time (ever) with her 9-year-old daughter, Eliana on Wednesday May 1st, 2019 in College Park, MD. The name for the shop came from it being created while Katie was “waiting" to adopt Eliana." Why & Learned: This woman gave me her card and I thought it looked like an add of sorts if I put it next to her actual project. I learned how important it is to connect with the subjects for this assignment. We spoke for about 10-15 minutes while I got my shots and she and her daughter became very open with me which allowed me to get more creative and take my time. |
Original: "Junior Information Sciences major, Jacob Halowell (left) relaxes at the Robert H. Smith Career Fair in College Park on Friday February 8th, 2019." Why & Learned: I wanted to get a wider angle of the event so I backed up and got low to be on level with the people on the bench. I learned that I should have gotten more of the interaction happening on the left or tripped out some of the action on the right. |
