University of Maryland music major Mason Yu plays the
violin during his quartet's performance on Sunday, March
10, 2019 at the Gildenhorn Recital Hall.

I really like the passion and emotion that this photo conveys.
Yu appears lost in the world of his music, so emotionally
invested and in a world of his own. This photo also
inspired me to do my final project because it showed
me the kinds of powerful emotions that can be
captured through musicians.

Maryland lacrosse face-off specialist Austin Henningson
breaks out a smile towards the end of the Terp's contest
against the Richmond Spiders. Henningsen won
all 15 of his face-offs to lead the team to a 10-9 win.

It seems like emotion is a trend in the photos that I love
from this semester, and this one is no exception.
I like this one because often it is hard to capture players'
emotions through a helmet, but you can clearly see that
he is ecstatic and celebrating. I also really like how the Maryland
M is peeling, showing how hard he played in the game. Plus there
is a great depth of field.

United States Park Police officer R. Welsted breaks out a huge
smile at the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on April
13, 2019 in Washington, DC. He was in charge of picking up
horse feces throughout the parade, which the crowd was
cheering him on for.

I like this photo because of the strong emotion it conveys with
the huge smile on the officer's face. I also really like how the depth
of field in this photo, with the background blurred so the sole
focus is on his emotion.

Maryland basketball forward Bruno Fernando attacks the rim during
the Terps' 70-56 win over Purdue at Xfinity Center on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019.

This is another really cool dunk captured, and I like it because it is the
moment before the dunk, which often doesn't
look the best. But in this case it
looked really cool because of the complete extension of Fernando's arm. I love the
guy guarding Bruno looking surprised with his arms flailing, as well as the
symmetry with Fernando in the center and two players on either side. And like the
last photo, he stands out because of the white jersey.

Purdue basketball forward Matt Haarms blocks a shot from Maryland
forward Jalen Smith in the Terps' 70-56 win over the
Boilermakers at Xfinity Center on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019.

I like how this photo captures a really important moment in the game,
of Jalen Smith being blocked. I love how you can see the struggle on
Smith's face and the determination in Matt Haarm's face, as well as the
surprised purdue player behind him and another with arms outstretched.

Maryland basketball forward Bruno Fernando posterizes
Purdue forward Matt Haarms during the Terps'
70-56 win over the Boilermakers at Xfinity
Center on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019.

I love this photo because it's an awesome
posterizing dunk, which was a huge momentum boost
in the game. I love the emotion and exclamation you
see in Fernando's face, and how you have that along
with capturing a moment that happens in a matter of seconds.
I also like the contrast of the white and black jerseys, with Fernando
sticking out because his jersey is the brightest color in the photo.

I really like this photo because of the awesome reflection
of the people walking in the glass of the bus stop. This creates
a really great symmetry and is just really cool looking. I also like
how you can see the street sign in the back, so you can tell it is
Washington, DC, but it's like a little nugget that doesn't take
over the photo. I also love all the bright colors.

This little boy, who was hanging out on a DC street with his dad,
was really adorable and I really liked how he was leaning on the
railing, with almost a smirk on his face. I also like the leading
lines that the railing creates and how his red sweatshirt draws
the viewer into the photo.

The sun shines bright over Queen Anne's Hall at the University
of Maryland on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019.

I was really happy with how this photo turned out, perfectly capturing
all of the sun's rays. Light is obviously a huge element in
this photo and the sun definitely draws the viewer in.

University of Maryland Gymkana trouper Henry Santer performs on the silks
during the group's Home Show at Xfinity Center
on March 30, 2019.

I really like this photo because of how eloquently
captures Santer's movement
on the silks, which
I think looks really cool. I also love the symmetry in this photo, with
Santer perfectly in the middle between the poles. I also like how Santer
really pops because he is the brightest part of the photo, and the red and
blue draw the eye in.
