The University of Maryland Filmmakers Club Short Film Festival was held on December 8th, 2019 at Hoff Theatre in the Stamp Student Union. The event honored many of the schools aspiring directors, actors, and writers.
Stone Heyman spent most of his time in the booth making sure the films and lighting were correct. He also helped to fix various sound issues that occurred in the event.
The University of Maryland is no stranger to movie making, one alumni member, Martin Blank, even came to put his short on display with the rest of the student films.
Club president Maud Acheampong hosted the show and was lucky enough to walk away with an award herself for Best Editing for Taste of it.
The award for Best Short was handed out to Death Vacation at the end of the night with the film's directors coming up to receive their rewards.
The audience had the chance to vote for the best short film after the show and gathered in the foyer of the theatre to decide with just a few minutes before the awards were to be handed out.
The clubs representatives all scurried to count votes as quick as they could in order to get the awards segment rolling and out on time. Social Media manager Luna C Rubi said that "Every second counted when we were counting those votes, people were going to lose interest and leave if we took too long."
Former member of the club and alumni, Lealin Queen, gave a closing speech giving his support to all the new faces at the event. He also expressed pride in how far the club has come since he was a member.
